Meet the Presenter

Sam Walmsley qualified in 2001 with a BSc in Prosthetics and Orthotics. He began his career in the NHS before becoming a founding director of The London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC). For eight years, he led orthotic clinics at the Tadworth Brain Injury Children’s Trust and Banstead Adult Brain Injury Centre.

A pioneer in orthotic innovation, Sam introduced groundbreaking treatments to the UK for conditions such as pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum. He played a key role in implementing a video vector gait laboratory and collaborated with Elaine Owen—widely regarded as the world’s leading expert in lower limb gait and orthotic biomechanics. Together, they developed LOC’s Optimal Segmental Kinematic Alignment (OSKAR) clinic, setting the gold standard for treating lower limb neurological impairments.

In 2017, Sam introduced the UK’s first unilateral clubfoot Cunningham brace, providing a modern alternative to the traditional boot and bar. His expertise extends to managing complex orthotic cases, including the Neuro HiTronic stance phase control Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis (KAFO) and the Reciprocal Gait Orthosis (RGO). Embracing technological advancements, he integrated 3D scanning into LOC’s practice, revolutionizing patient care by eliminating the need for traditional casting—particularly beneficial for children.

As a driving force behind LOC’s growth, Sam has positioned it as a specialist, evidence-based orthotic practice, delivering world-class treatments. His areas of expertise include paediatric orthotics, complex foot and ankle orthotics, lower limb biomechanics, cerebral palsy, post-SDR rehabilitation, post-polio syndrome, clubfoot, and non-surgical treatments for pectus carinatum and pectus excavatum.
